Arch Enemy bring back Liiva and Amott

Japan festival set to see return of founding members for one-off appearance

Swedish melodic death metal outfit Arch Enemy will reunite with its founding members at Japan’s Loud Park festival on October 10.

The band say: “We're very excited about returning to Japan next month for a performance at the 10th anniversary of the Loud Park festival. We will be bringing two very special guests...original Arch Enemy members Johan Liiva and Christopher Amott."

Roland: "We have many plans now for the future, which started maybe with the new contract with AFM again. I had the plan, because… The situations are getting more heavy, more difficult in the music business, and I had the idea to… instead of one normal studio album, to deliver something like the DVD first. Then we're working on the re-recording CD of my ex-band HELLOWEEN — my favorite, let's say, ten [or] twelve songs, we want to re-record soon. We did already the drums, and we want to deliver it maybe late spring — as a MASTERPLAN album with some HELLOWEEN melodies. And I think it's very close to MASTERPLAN, because I wrote these songs, like 'The Time Of The Oath', 'The Dark Ride' or 'Escalation 666'… 'The Chance', and many, many more. And I'm pretty sure people will love it… with [Rick's] voice. I will sing maybe some stuff as well. And after that, we do another studio album."

EREB ALTOR: Hailing mighty BATHORY with an upcoming Tribute-release!!!

Swedish EREB ALTOR have just returned from their successful tour with CRUACHAN and every visitor on this tour (or also already on the tours and festivals before) had the pleasure to witness the Gävle Vikings playing a fantastic coversong of BATHORY´s milestone “Twilight Of The Gods”. Every fan knowing about EREB ALTOR´s career is aware that they are by far not a BATHORY tribute or cover band, but Quorthon and his legendary band is one of the main influences and with tons of heart and soul EREB ALTOR transport this heritage to the present age! Now EREB ALTOR choose to record 7 BATHORY classics for a special vinyl only release entitled “Blot – Ilt – Taut” (which is old Swedish and means nothing less than “Blood – Fire – Death”!!!), where they praise with reverence and much respect the mighty works of Tomas “Ace” Börje Forsberg who sadly passed away in 2004 much too early.

Here´s what Mats of EREB ALTOR wants to let you know about this special release: “During the years of Ereb Altor I have often been confronted with these words: ‘You should record some Bathory hymns!’ And recently this has happened more frequently, perhaps due to the fact that we at some rare occasions have done a Bathory song or two live. This has been haunting my mind. If we would do this, how should we do this? There is only one answer to that question: WE WILL DO IT FROM THE HEART !!! And for us it was also important to put our Ereb Altor touch on these magnificent works of Quorthon. The classic albums that I grew up with are closer to my heart than the post “Twilight of the Gods” albums. So we decided to do only songs from the classic albums. So many great songs to choose from! Let’s make a full album while we’re at it. So it shall be done ! Our next release “BLOT – ILT – TAUT” will contain seven Bathory hymns interpretated by Ereb Altor.”

The European tour comes in anticipation of Dream Theater’s forthcoming album which is expected to arrive in early 2016. Elevator-music kings SUMMONING have been writing a new record and is still conceptualizing things. That being said, everything is moving along! Silenius had this to say about the progress of the new album.

   Everything started a year ago, when we looked through the remaining riffs from the last "Old Mornings Dawn" session. We still had some unfinished songs and a few isolated riffs remaining.

   We took them and composed new music around them or took the riffs and added it to new material. At the moment we finished the recording session, but it will still take some time to finish the whole album, because we have to work out a lyrical concept and add the guitar lines to the music.
   What we can say is that two songs are dealing with the "Akallabêth"; the first song refers to "Ar-pharazôn". This is a long instrumental song and will be used instead of the usual intro song that was a kind of tradition for all our albums 'till now.

   The second song deals with the downfall of the "Númenor".

   This is the information we have at the moment, everything else is still in process.

He added in the interview that the new album will be " less melancholy and depression feelings around, and more this epic 'onward into battle' mood."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has recruited Brooks Wackerman (BAD RELIGION, INFECTIOUS GROOVES) as its new drummer. As promised a couple of days ago, the news was revealed on this week's edition of the "Talk Is Jericho" podcast hosted by FOZZY singer Chris Jericho.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD had been working with a new drummer for over a year already following the departure of Arin Ilejay. Although Ilejay left the group quite some time ago, his departure was only announced this past July.

"It just became increasingly difficult to be on the same page, not only touring, but with writing and just where we want to take things," explained M. Shadows. "We're just a bunch of guys who are all over the place and we have a bunch of different influences and we need somebody who can instantly… who can sit there and say, 'Yeah, I've got that influence too or I understand why we're gonna go here. I understand why we're going to do that.'"

He continued: "It just got to the point where after Mayhem Festival last year, we had just decided to fire on all cylinders the way we want to, we needed to make a change. And we all had our little talk. We said, 'Listen, we can ride this thing out the way it is right now and we'll be fine or we can shake the nest a little bit and we want to fire on all cylinders again. We want to be the baddest band on the planet. We want to just dominate onstage.' And I came up with the idea that I really want to talk to Brooks and see if there's any chance and see where he's at in his life right now."

Wackerman told the "Talk Is Jericho" podcast: "I've been a fan of the band for a decade and when Matt [M. Shadows] gave me the call last year, I was absolutely thrilled.

"This past year I have been reassessing what I want to do. With a band like BAD RELIGION, I'm so proud of all the work we've done together. But I was yearning for something new, a different style and during that time is when I got the call."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD has been working on material for its seventh album, but has not revealed many details about the project yet. M. Shadows told "Talk Is Jericho": "The idea of the last record was a very stripped-down sound and the idea of the next is a... not very stripped-down sound!"
