AT THE GATES - The Nightmare Of Being (2 juillet 2021)

Ca sort cet été. Le précédent m'avait pas mal déçu au final, tant au niveau du son que du style et des compos. Espérons que le groupe retrouve au moins le niveau de At War With Reallity. Déja Russ Russell ne sera plus à la prod, c'est peut être bon signe !



We can now reveal that the upcoming album will be entitled “The Nightmare Of Being”, it will be released on July 2nd, 2021 via Century Media Records.

While main parts for “The Nightmare Of Being” were recorded in several different Swedish studios - Drums at Studio Gröndal with Jens Bogren, guitars and bass with Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studio and vocals at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg -, the album was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with AT THE GATES on their “At War With Reality” comeback album in 2014. The album’s visual concept (The frontcover is to be seen above!) was developed by artist Eva Nahon.

AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant checked in with the following comment about the album’s concept: "The overall theme deals with the topic of pessimism, and I have been diving deep down in pessimistic philosophers. Trying to understand this way of looking at the world. It is not a negative album, more a gateway into new ideas for me personally, trying out different perspectives. You could call the album an introduction to pessimism as a concept, I guess. It is a very dark album, but not negative…”.
And musically, while “The Nightmare Of Being” unveils a newly liberated and adventurous AT THE GATES via some of the bravest and most mesmerising material they have ever written, Lindberg Redant adds: “It still sounds like AT THE GATES, 100 percent. It is just more of everything….”

The album’s standard tracklisting will be as follows:

Il était plutôt bon le dernier, non? Qu'est-ce qui t'avait gêné? Pour moi du melodeath agressif + la voix de Tompa ça me suffit à faire un album de At The Gates satisfaisant.

Style trop old school et "atmosphérique", prod un peu brouillonne, compos pas vraiment accrocheuses...

Le précédent n'était pas aussi bon que At War With Reality mais c'était quand même de la bonne came. Cf ma chronique.

A la première écoute Edith préfère ce morceau à tout ce qu'il y avait sur l'album précédent !

Deuxième extrait très encourageant (même si ici tout le monde s'en fout) !

Du nouveau... surprenant !  

C'est sorti ! Pas encore eu le temps de bien l'écouter mais ça s'annonce bien.

Étonnant en terme de tempo notamment...

Pour le moment, grosse déception pour ma part. L'album est décousu, manque de cohérence et de rythme.

Il sonne beaucoup mieux que le précédent, c'est déja ça. Après oui il est varié, hétérogène... on peut dire décousu. Il faut creuser pour se faire un avis définitif.

Le dernier passait plutôt pas mal, c'était du At The Gates classique (d'aucuns diraient en pilotage automatique). Là j'ai vraiment eu du mal à accrocher...

J'ai commencé à creuser l'album et je ne le comprends pas. Les morceaux "classiques" sont très réussis : puissants, agressifs, incisifs... Le reste est... Souvent moyen et complètement décousu. L'album ne se tient pas du tout. On dirait qu'il y a la moitié d'un album plus des bonus tracks intercalées au milieu.

Je veux bien vos avis puisque je rédigerai la chro de l'album, mais vous avez l'air de le vivre un peu de la même façon.

pour ma part je le découvre.

Les morceaux rapides sont classiques mais efficace, et ceux plus expérimentaux me plaisent pas mal jusque-là, notamment Garden of Cyrus qui me fait penser au Guardians of Earth de Sepultura

Personnellement il m'ennuie un peu. Je le trouve monotone car peu accrocheur. Que le groupe evolue est tres cool mais pas reussi AMHA.

Je dois écrire ma chro mais mon avis c'est : les morceaux "classiques" du groupe sont réussis, bien pêchus. Le reste est expérimental et souvent un peu à côté de la plaque. Ça me donne l'impression d'un album du groupe où ils auraient calé au milieu des faces B et des morceaux bonus.

Le guitariste Jonas Stålhammar a été viré d'At The Gates et de tous ses autres groupes (The Lurking Fear, Venus Principle) suite à des accusations de "comportement déplacé", en gros il aurait fait une Ellefson...

Il est déja remplacé sur scène par Patrick Jensen de The Haunted (qui a donc 3 membres en commun avec ATG en ce moment) et Witchery.

AT THE GATES Announces Return Of Founding Guitarist ANDERS BJÖRLER

AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg comments the news: "It is with great pleasure we welcome Anders Björler, one of the founding members, back into the band. We are excited to tell you that we are already starting the work on the follow up to 'The Nightmare Of Being', with the same lineup that wrote 'Terminal Spirit Disease', 'Slaughter Of The Soul' and 'At War with Reality'. Anders's first show back in the band will be Damnation Fest in the U.K., and he will join us on the European tour together with IN FLAMES later this year. Great times! It really feels like a second rebirth of the band, and we are looking forward to this new chapter!"

Anders Björler added the following comment: "It feels like coming home for sure. I have been missing the guys, of course, but also playing the guitar, writing music and the artistic creativity in general. I've been watching from the sidelines for a number of years, and I've been very proud of what they have created in my absence. I am really looking forward to writing a new album and getting back to playing live shows again."
