At The Gates: Announce new studio album; Sign worldwide deal with Century Media Records!

Seminal Swedish Metallers AT THE GATES are back! Following the heat of an ample and highly praised live-reunion, the pioneers of the "Gothenburg style" melodic death metal sound have announced to be working on a comeback studio album in the classic line-up of their latest masterpiece effort from 1995, "Slaughter Of The Soul", expected to be released worldwide by the end of 2014 via their new label partner Century Media Records.

AT THE GATES checked with the following comment statement:
"So, here we are almost 24 years since the birth of At The Gates, and some 18+ years since our latest album 'Slaughter Of The Soul'. A lot of years have passed and we have embarked on some life-changing reunion tours and shows the last couple of years.
So, why make a new album you might ask, and why now? Well, what we learned from the last couple of years hanging out and playing shows together, is that we enjoy what we do to the fullest extent. We love playing music together, and we love to hang out as friends. But, as a musician, we constantly write new music. It's a huge part of our identities.
We are fully aware that we have made some very drastic statements in interviews as well as the closing words on the DVD about the longevity of At The Gates, but things change, situations change and people change. When Anders sent the first song last summer, we had zero expectations of the outcome. We only knew one thing - That it sounded amazing! At the time we weren't even sure there would be an album, but as things progressed, more songs came into existence, and we knew we were on to something great.

We know you are all curious about the new material, and to make a simple explanation of where we are at musically, we would describe it as a perfect mix between early At The Gates & 'Slaughter of the Soul'-era At The Gates, trying to maintain the legacy and the history.
We chose Century Media as a worldwide partner for the upcoming album. We have all been friends for years with people at the label. Jonas & Anders have a history with The Haunted there (as well as Adrian with Paradise Lost).
So, we hope to bring you updates about the progress of the new album soon. The plan is to record the album in June/July with a tentative release in October / November of 2014 on Century Media Records."

AT THE GATES vocalist and lyricist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment, explaining the album’s theme: "The concept of 'At War with Reality' is based on the literary genre called 'Magic Realism'. The main style within this genre is the notion that 'reality' is ever-changing, and needs to be constantly re-discovered and re-conquered. We felt that Costin's artwork style would be the perfect visual contribution to this album, so he became the natural choice..."

AT THE GATES guitarist, and main songwriter Anders further explained: "I got in touch with Costin a few years back. I was immediately impressed with his dark and original style. He collaborated on some T-shirt designs for AT THE GATES as well as designing the album artwork for my Instrumental Project. We realized pretty early on that his style would accompany the music and the concept perfectly.”

Additionally, Costin Chioreanu checked in with the following words: “I have been waiting for this album for almost 20 years and it’s the biggest honor for me to illustrate it - As there is no greater achievement for a dreamer than the moment when the dream becomes reality. "At War With Reality" is by far the most complex visual story I have ever created, from all points of view. From the very first moment the band presented the concept, I found it extremely stunning and at the same time super-challenging. I like to think that visual art and music are tools to explore our minds - to create, to discover and to push the limits. AT THE GATES, one of my all-time favorite Metal bands, offered me a chance to explore a new dimension.”

“At War With Reality” will be released on October 27th, 2014 in Europe and October 28th, 2014 in North America via Century Media Records.

L'album commence à tourner en boucle chez moi... Ce qui est flagrant, c'est que At the Gates mais sans problème une branlée à tous les groupes qui, actuellement, font de la musique "comme le melodeath de Göteborg de la divine époque". Le maître reste le maître.

Lindberg s'est barré de Lock Up, il y est remplacé par Kevin Sharp de Brutal Truth.
Ca confirme qu'At The Gates est de retour pour de bon, à long terme, et c'est plutôt une bonne nouvelle.

Mais j'ai quand même eu du mal à y trouver quelque chose d'inoubliable, malheureusement...

Ayé, je relance l'écoute plus attentive, et quand même, il est plutôt bien gaulé!
The Head Of The Hydra, par exemple, c'est très bon! Il manque quand même un ou deux tubes pour l'instant, mais c'est vraiment pas mal!

"The Circular Ruins", the new performance video from Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES, can be seen below. The clip features footage filmed by Live Media Group during the band's April 2015 show at Chicago's House Of Blues during the Decibel Magazine Tour.

AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg told Jägermeister last November about the band's plans for the future: "I think we will be touring this [album] until at least the end of next summer, as it looks now. After that, we will see where we're going. It is a conscious decision as well to do that — to not plan too much ahead, to live in the moment, to not put pressure on ourselves writing while we're enjoying this. 'Cause that's what happened in the '90s with us, and that's why we imploded, so we don't wanna do the same mistake twice. But, I mean, I can say that we're not planning not to do a follow-up [album], if you know what I'm saying. So I have high hopes. We will see where it takes us."

Je l'ai trouvé excellent celui-là. :beer:

Pourtant Slaughter of the Soul j'ai jamais aimé...
Je l'ai ressorti en début d'année. Il a un peu accusé le coup mais je pensais que ce serait pire vu le pari sur l'efficacité et la collection de riffs à la tronçonneuse qu'ils ont fait. Il reste quelques bons arbres pour se faire poutrer la gueule drunken

Le groupe semble en pause en ce moment, du coup Tompa et Erlandsson créent un énième projet:

AT THE GATES members Tomas Lindberg (vocals) and Adrian Erlandsson (drums) have joined forces with Jonas Stålhammar (guitar; THE CROWN), Fredrik Wallenberg (guitar; SKITSYSTEM) and Andreas Axelsson (bass; DISFEAR, TORMENTED, EDGE OF SANITY) in a brand new band called THE LURKING FEAR.

According to the new group's official mission statement, "THE LURKING FEAR is bringing sheer, natural weirdness and horror back to the scene, as we want our death metal ugly, twisted and possessed.

"Riffs should stir up real feelings of repulsion, and disgust deep down in your soul, and vocals should sounds like hounds of hell howling at the moon."
