SOJOURNER - Premonitions (08/05/2020)

Les auteurs de l'album de l'année 2018 reviennent dans 2 mois. Le nouvel album s'appellera Premonitions et sortira chez Napalm Records. Et on a la cover, la tracklist et un premier extrait/clip.
Je suis l'impatience.

Two years after releasing “The Shadowed Road” & signing to Napalm Records we are finally back with our third album, titled "Premonitions"! We took a darker path this time around, evolving the core sound of "Empires of Ash" & "The Shadowed Road" in directions that we haven't previously explored. This is our most personal album to date, the result of overcoming extreme adversity in all of our personal lives to rise stronger on the other side.

“Premonitions” was mixed & mastered by Øystein G. Brun (Borknagar) at Crosound Studio in Norway.

The artwork was done once again by Sebastian Luca (Bast).

The album will be released in a 4-panel digipak, a double gatefold vinyl in black, a Napalm exclusive yellow & blue colored vinyl, and a Napalm exclusive album cover t-shirt.

Je ne peux pas écouter pour le moment parce que je suis au bureau, mais je pense que je vais l'acheter par principe.

The Deluge continue à tourner en boucle, c'est le titre que j'ai écouté le plus cette année, et voici déjà un deuxième extrait: Fatal Frame

Ca s'annonce bien tout ça...

Ce groupe est de qualité - les deux extraits sont une nouvelle fois très bons, notamment "Fatal Frame", dont la vigueur m'en donne autant ! - mais est hélas tout entier absorbé dans une piste unique, "Bound by Blood", dont je ne me remets pas. Tout le reste - si je suis sévère - me semble une variation sur cet absolu.Seule "Winter's Slumber" semble atteindre ce niveau. Le groupe sait très bien ouvrir ses albums, visiblement.

Allez, je vais me réécouter un p'tit peu les disques précédents, tiens.

Perso, mes morceaux préférés sont Homeward, Ode To The Sovereign et The Shadowed Road.

J'adore ce second single, plus brut et moins pouet pouet que le déluge !

Bein alors, personne ne l'a écouté!
Il est très bon cet album
la construction est très forte
Talas (vous connaissez mes goûts, vous vous doutez donc que je trouve ce titre exceptionnel!) est parfaitement placé
et donc comme je disais ailleurs l'enchaînement :

c'est Master classe!

Je n'ai pas encore écouté l'album en entier mais ça s'annonce vraiment bon!

Très bon album, mais un ton en-dessous de The Shadowed Road pour moi. Et malheureusement, comme je pouvais le craindre, aucun titre n'est vraiment au niveau hallucinant de The Deluge!
Mais je vais persévérer

Sinon dans le même genre, écoutez Belore, les gens!

Après quelques écoutes, j'aime beaucoup. Il est peut-être un chouïa moins folk que The Shadowed Road, mais il y a des passages de toute beauté.

Eulogy For The Lost et The Apocalyptic Theater c'est beau quand même!
Je pense qu'il va beaucoup tourner, cet album

Par contre, il va falloir renouveler les lignes mélodiques, parce que l'intro de Talas c'est celle de The Shadowed Road
Mais je ne vais pas bouder mon plaisir, c'est vraiment de la bonne!

En fait, en y réfléchissant, il me fait penser à quand j'ai découvert le death mélodique d'Insomnium.

Je l'ai écouté ce matin en voiture et je l'aime beaucoup cet album.

“Dear friends and fans,
I’m sorry to share that I’ve decided to leave Sojourner. I won’t share my reasons - I can only hope that you will all understand that this was an incredibly difficult decision, but I thought about it for a long time and it is the best thing for me to do at this point. I wish the guys all the best for the future, and I know that whatever direction they take the band in next will be amazing.
For now, my attention is going to be taken up by writing fantasy books, and by a move from Scotland to Germany, where I’m taking up a position as postdoctoral researcher in Classical Philology at Heidelberg. But soon I’ll be announcing a couple of collaborations and guest spots, with musicians who I’m incredibly excited to work with, and hopefully before too long, a new project. I don’t know quite what it will be yet, but if you like Sojourner’s particular brand of epic, then I hope you’ll like whatever I do next too.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Sojourner so far. We’ve been lucky to have such an amazing, loyal following, and I hope to see you all again soon.

We have a HUGE announcement for you all today!
First, we present to you our new members: Lucia Amelia Emmanueli (Monochrome, the City) on vocals and Tom O’Dell (Dwarrowdelf, Battle Born) on second guitar/backing vocals! After our change in lineup last year, we held many auditions and we were so excited to ask these two to join our ranks. Tom has been a close friend of ours for a long time and Lucia’s voice completely blew us away.
So please welcome Lucia and Tom to the Sojourner family! We'll introduce you to them individually in more depth very soon.
Instead of just putting up a simple post, we really wanted to turn this into something special so we decided to keep it under wraps until now and to do an actual release with our new lineup! So we are proud to present our new mini EP titled 'Perennial'.
Songwriter and musician Mike Lamb says:
"When I approached the songwriting for this mini EP I wanted to do something special that encompassed both where we began and where we are today, because while we've grown and changed over the last 6 years we still have the same passion and vision for the band that brought us together initially. I approached both the songwriting and recording for this EP in the same way that I did on 'Empires of Ash' and 'The Shadowed Road', even down to recording all of the instruments back in New Zealand again for the first time since we began, in the same room where I wrote "Heritage of the Natural Realm" in 2015. It also seemed like a fitting time to do something that sat somewhere between a reinterpretation of "Heritage..." and a sequel of sorts for the second EP track, "Relics of the Natural Realm", bringing our 2015 beginnings full circle back to where we are now and the band that we've evolved into in 2021. This is reflected in the cover art, again by our good friend Jordan Grimmer who did the original 'Empires of Ash' cover, showing the meeting of Sojourner both past and present. We couldn't be happier with our incredibly talented new members, both of who turned in absolutely beautiful vocal performances, and we're so excited about the bright future ahead for the band."
Vocalist Emilio says:
"With wanting to revisit the old style of Sojourner I decided to tap into our roots on a lyrical level. 'Perennial' very much follows the thread of nature and it’s loss at our very own hands. This theme was prevalent in several songs on our first album so it made sense to revisit that. The vocals were meticulously worked on with Lucia to make sure that every single word worked in its tone and placement. Later, with Tom joining in on backing vocals at the very end, we truly felt happy with the end result."
