C'est Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, THE HAUNTED, DIMMU BORGIR) qui produit.
D'après Tompa l'album sera "plus heavy et plus death metal que At War with Reallity".

Lindberg recently told Metal Wani about the writing process for the next AT THE GATES album: "We are all very eager to get this done. The one that has stepped up so far is, of course, Jonas [Björler, bass], who wrote about forty percent of both [2014's comeback album] 'At War With Reality' and [1995's] 'Slaughter Of The Soul', so he stepped in as the main songwriter now, and the stuff that he's put on the table so far is amazing, basically. It really captures exactly the essence of what AT THE GATES is. I mean, 'At War With Reality' was a good album for us, a strong album, but I think this one is more focused on just being us."

Regarding the musical direction of the new AT THE GATES material, Tomas said: "There's been a lot of discussions, and, as I said, a very creative, inspired atmosphere right now. I would say that we are, again, in a sense, as with 'At War With Reality', trying to really grasp what AT THE GATES is. Maybe a little bit more again even further back to the roots a little bit to see what aspects of AT THE GATES we could put in the AT THE GATES of today and make it a whole record, so to say, to present as we are now. But I think there will be some surprises for people in a very good way. So far it's a very coherent, very strong album, [with] very strong songs."

Pour rappel suite au nouveau départ d'Anders Bjorler, le nouveau guitariste est Jonas Stålhammar (God Macabre, The Lurking Fear, chanteur sur un album de The Crown).

Says AT THE GATES: "We have finally decided on a new guitar player, and we are ready to rip again! Actually, he was our first choice, and we are happy to have him on board.

"Jonas Stålhammar has been a friend since the late eighties (Tomas [Lindberg, vocals] used to tape trade with him back then!), and our paths have crossed many times during our careers.

"We were looking for someone who had the same reference points as we do, someone from the same path, so to say, who understand the greatness of both AUTOPSY and KING CRIMSON. Of course, it was essential that our new member could fill the shoes of Anders performance-wise as well, but that was never an issue with Jonas. We were looking for someone with a deep understanding of what AT THE GATES are about, someone who could contribute creatively to the band.

"Jonas Stålhammar will be a full member from day one, and will play on the upcoming full-length album, scheduled for recording in November 2017 - January 2018.

"We currently have eleven songs ready for said album, and are more inspired than perhaps ever before.

"You can expect a full-on AT THE GATES record with all the classic elements of the band. It is by far the most comprehensive album of the band to date, and will span all the way across the different elements of the band's sound.

"We are super-excited for 2018. It will be a good year for AT THE GATES, and our fans, for sure."

Swedish melodic Death Metal pioneers AT THE GATES have just completed the recording process of their upcoming studio album with producer Russ Russell (Napalm Death, The Haunted, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) at Parlour Studios in the UK. The album will be entitled “To Drink From The Night Itself” and it follows up 2014’s acclaimed comeback release “At War With Reality”. The worldwide release date will be May 18th, 2018 via Century Media Records.

The band has checked in with the following comment:

"We have wrapped up the recordings of the new record, and we are super psyched! It has been a smooth process, and very creatively fullfilling. All people that we have worked with on this project have stepped up to our vision of the final product, and we are very excited about the result.

As you might have seen, we have worked with Russ Russel on this one, and he is really a master of getting the most intense takes out of us, and also has an ear for the rawness that we were after for this one. The vocals were recorded with Per Stålberg here in Gothenburg, and he always makes me deliver to a 100%. Right now we are getting the mastering done, and every new song that is bounced to us produces huge grins on our faces. This album sounds hungry and mean.

The title of our new record will be "To Drink From The Night Itself", and it is, again a conceptual record. More details about the concept will be revealed once the album is more on its way. But it connects with the deep roots of the band, and has connections with some of the themes on "The Red In The Sky Is Ours".

AT THE GATES have also announced several more new shows for 2018 including a first club show of the year in Cologne, Germany (with Ultha and Nailed To Obscurity as supports) as well as various high-profile festivals like Pulp Summer Slam (The Philippines), Graspop (Belgium), Hellfest (France), Resurrection (Spain) or Summer Breeze (Germany).

Artwork and info revealed for “To Drink From The Night Itself” album due May 18th, 2018 via Century Media Records.

The album’s front cover can be seen below and Tomas Lindberg checked in about it with the following comment:

"It has once again been an absolute pleasure working creativily with Costin. We had a lot of ideas for what we wanted to get across with the art this time around. Overall they were, not surprisingly, related to the general concept of the record. What is great with Costin is that he understands the band. He knows what we are and where we come from. And me and him also have a strong artistic connection. I have never met anyone that goes so deep into the world of my lyrics and concepts. When I first wrote to him describing my ideas, I was worried that my remarks were perhaps too long and too confusing, only to get back an even longer and very inspired response…

The inspiration for the actual front cover piece is taken from the Pergamon Altar, on display at the Pergamon museum in Berlin. It is of course linked closely to the concept that the whole record is based upon, but more on that later. But I will throw a name out there, for the interested ones; Peter Weiss.

I can't wait to get the whole record in my hands now, as this is just one of the many great artwork pieces that Costin has created for us on “To Drink From The Night Itself“..."

Je veux pas faire le rabat-joie mais le riff fait quand même beaucoup penser à "Blinded By Fear " non ?

C'est du pur At The Gates, très classique. Peut être que le but avec ce morceau était de rassurer tout le monde après le départ d'Anders Björler et de prouver que le groupe pouvait composer sans lui en gardant son âme.

Ah oui, c'est quand même plus que proche!

AT THE GATES frontman Tomas Lindberg comments: "So, for the first song to present to the public, we chose the title track of the album, which is also the opening track of the record. To us, this gives a presentation of the attitude of the album: raw, hungry and desperate. It also gives an introduction to the whole concept of the record.

"We live through our art, and the whole album deals with the concept of art. Art as a tool either for revolution, or suppression. To drink from the night itself is just that, a metaphor for living and breathing through art. Of course, the concept goes deeper than that, but this song is the heart of the concept, the fierce call to arms so to say. We are still at war, but this time we are fighting the abyss, the abyss of apathy and oppression. It is an aggressive song, but also contains a lot of the other elements of the band's sound on this record. Melancholia, desperation and struggle.

"For the first video, we chose to use Patric Ullaeus again, as he is good at capturing the raw energy of the band playing live. In the video you can also see glimpses of the art used for the cover, so it binds it all together nicely."

T'en fais pas trop, j'ai eu exactement la même réaction PUTAIN UN NOUVEAU TITRE !!!

Tout ça est parfaitement dans la ligne du parti... Heu... Du groupe. Un tempo plus lourd quand même comme ils avaient annoncé. On a beau dire, dans le genre, ils écrasent (presque) tout le monde. Par contre, les solos sont un peu légers, c'est assez décevant.

Bon, maintenant je vais attendre l'album pour écouter l'ensemble plutôt que morceau par morceau.

Je suis un peu mitigé sur l'album. J'attends de voir sur la longueur.
