Vol, piétinement, ça...

Je n'avais aucun attente, mais ce choix artistique (pochette + titres des morceaux) me stimule pas mal. Je suis rendu curieux.
J'avais adoré The Sin puis complètement méprisé son successeur, donc là, c'est un joli coup de me rameuter.

Et donc, comme déjà annoncé sur Discord, le projet extrême de Matt Heafy "Ibaraki"se précise (depuis presque une décennie qu'il tease ça, il était temps). Trivium frontman Matt Heafy is keeping impressively busy these days. As the metal veterans ready the release of their 10th studio album, In the Court of the Dragon, Heafy revealed he will finally release his long-gestating black metal record, featuring Emperor's Ihsahn and Behemoth's Nergal, next year.

Heafy dished about the album on a recent episode of The Jasta Show, hosted by Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta. You can watch the full interview below.

"During this [lockdown] I was able to finally finish my black metal record with Ihsahn from Emperor," Heafy said, as transcribed by BraveWords. "He's been producing and co-writing that with me for about 11 years, and it finally comes out in the middle of next year, which should be fun."

Heafy has been teasing his black metal excursion for years. The project was initially named Mrityu, but after discussing his goals with Ihsahn, he changed the name to Ibaraki.

"It used to be called Mrityu, which I got from Ashtanga yoga," Heafy said. "It means the concept of life and death — same thing as the ouroboros, same thing as the Japanese Enso, the idea that life and death are always symbiotic with each other. I didn't really know what to write about lyrically, and I was talking to Ihsahn because I've always loved Scandinavian mythology, Norse mythology, and Swedish mythology. I wish I could write about Thor and Jörmungandr, I love these stories. He's like, 'Yeah, but Matt, those have been done a lot, and you have your own rich history to tap into with your Japanese side.' And then a lightbulb went off. I was like, 'I need to just write about that.' I started writing all the lyrics about Japanese stories because that's something that hasn't really happened.

“There isn't really a band that writes about Japanese folklore or the Shinto gods and goddesses and fictitious stories of Japanese history," Heafy continued. "So I changed the band name to Ibaraki, which is actually Trivium's mascot — an easter egg in there — and the entire project is Japanese-themed. The art, the lyrics, I'm actually singing in Japanese. Ishahn's on the record, Nergal's on the record."

Before Ibaraki sees the light of day, Trivium will release In the Court of the Dragon on Oct. 8. It will mark their second album released amid the pandemic, following April 2020's What the Dead Men Say.

Heafy and Jasta also have plenty of time to hang out during the ongoing Metal Tour of the Year, where Trivium and Hatebreed are both supporting co-headliners Megadeth and Lamb of God. You can see the full list of dates here.

Une écoute attentive à mon actif et j'ai bien aimé, sûrement le meilleur de ce que j'ai entendu du groupe, ça groove bien et surtout le chant est très bon

Écoute, à peu près pareil pour moi sur les premiers morceaux de l'album, écoute de l'intégralité à suivre!

Première écoute très enthousiasmante, surtout après le pétard mouillé que m'avait été le dernier album. - Il me tarde de l'enquiller dix fois de suite, celui-ci. On en r'causera.

Ah moi c'est un peu l'inverse, musicalement c'est plutôt cool mais j'aime pas trop le chant. Son "growl" est moche particulier, et le chant clair systématique (encore plus qu'avant, non ?) sur les refrains me tape sur les nerfs. Mais je vais lui donner une autre chance !

Vraiment un excellent album pour ma part, dans un style pour lequel je n'attendais pas Trivium (de ce que je connais du groupe) et qui ne m'intéresse normalement pas.
Ça tabasse sévère.

pareil, je le trouve excellent, j'ai toujours été fan du groupe et celui la vient parfaitement clôturer la nouvelle ère du groupe et la trilogie d'albums avec le nouveau batteur (quel monstre celui la, on ne le dira jamais assez mais il a grandement contribué à "relancer" le groupe), les chansons sont un parfait condensé de ce qu'ils savent faire !

Tout pareil, je le trouve vraiment très convaincant, cet album! Et comme Dizzie, c'est un groupe qui ne m'a jamais vraiment intéressé.

Bon, va falloir que je m'y penche si je comprends bien.

Après plusieurs écoutes, je trouve qu'il y a un détail qui fait plaisir dans celui-ci: c'est le vrai retour des soli qui en foutent partout. C'était déjà ce qui faisait un peu défaut à What the Dead Men Say à mon goût. Guitaristiquement parlant ils ne s'étaient plus montrés aussi virtuoses depuis leurs la doublette Ascendancy/The Crusade et bien sûr Shogun, même si je l'aime pas beaucoup.

J'ai juste écouté un morceau, faut que j'approfondisse mais pas sur que je tienne l'album en entier.

Je suis le seul à être gêné par le chant ?

Bin moi, j'ai écouté distraitement et j'ai été agréablement surpris.

Si tu fais référence à la voix claire Pietro, je trouve Heafy bien moins pénible que dans sa jeunesse. Après son growl bon il a jamais été transcendant ...
