SODOM - Out Of The Frontline Trench (EP, 22 novembre 2019) + Genesis XIX (album, 27 novembre 2020)

Deuxième EP d'affilé après le très bon Partisan qui inaugurait le nouveau line up à quatre avec deux guitaristes.



German thrash metal veterans SODOM will release a new EP, "Out Of The Frontline Trench", on November 22 via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort contains three brand new tracks as well as new recordings (studio and live) of two SODOM classics.

Frontman Thomas "Angelripper" Such comments: "Postcards and letters from my granddad, which I discovered among the things he left behind when he died, and some TV documentaries have given me a vague idea of what it must have been like for soldiers back in those days to leave their trenches and face those life-threatening battles."

The close relationship between a metal band and its fans can be measured by — among other things — how long the group makes its supporters wait for new songs. So looking at it from that perspective, SODOM is definitely exemplary seeing that it has always supplied their huge following with new material at regular intervals. The release of their current album, "Decision Day", was followed — in time for their major European tour in December 2018 — by the "Partisan" EP.

Now the Gelsenkirchen thrash metal act led by figurehead Such (vocals, bass) presents itself from its generous side again: Even before work on their upcoming album is set to commence, SODOM are ready to unleash their brand-new mini-album, "Out Of The Frontline Trench". Tom calls the recording "a sign of life for our fans," having cut, together with his guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik (also formerly of KREATOR, ASSASSIN) and Yorck Segatz (BEYONDITION) plus drummer Stefan "Husky" Hüskens (ASPHYX, DESASTER), three new songs as well as two classics (one of them re-recorded, the other one a live number), "Out Of The Frontline Trench" forging an arch between SODOM's past, present and future.

Blackfire previously played with SODOM on the seminal albums "Persecution Mania", "Mortal Way Of Live" and "Agent Orange".

Commented Such: "We're a real family again. We all really enjoy the new lineup. There's a real team spirit again; we're having a great time together, every one of us is interested in everything and — really important! — everybody is there for everybody else. Obviously that kind of atmosphere is bound to have a positive effect on the songwriting."

Former SODOM guitarist Bernd "Bernemann" Kost and drummer Markus "Makka" Freiwald released a joint statement in January 2018 claiming that they were fired from the band by Tom via messaging platform WhatsApp even before Tom had a chance to hear any of the material the duo had been working on for the group's next album.

Vu en live avec ce line-up, c'était vraiment bien.
Le batteur, qui joue chez Asphyx est vraiment monstrueux (dans tous les sens du terme).

Cet EP a l'air relativement sympa. Mais les inédits semblent moins virulents que "Partisan".

Oui, y avait un coté presque black metal sur Partisan qui était bien méchant.

Bernemann et Makka, les anciens membres virés par whatsapp, ont un nouveau groupe. C'est s'appelle Bonded, c'est du thrash mais plus proche de Lamb of God que de Sodom et ils sont Charlie.

C'est carrément pas mal du tout Bonded ! Il y a un petit côté The Haunted de la grande époque sur ce nouveau morceau je trouve :

SODOM Drummer STEFAN 'HUSKY' HÜSKENS Exits Band

Le groupe n'était plus compatible avec son boulot. Oui, les membres de groupes comme Sodom ont un boulot à côté. C'est pas en vendant trois ou quatre t-shirts aux concerts qu'ils vont gagner leur vie malheureusement...

Le nouvel album sort en novembre.


German thrash metal veterans SODOM will release their new album, "Genesis XIX", on November 27 via SPV/Steamhammer. The LP was recorded at Woodhouse Studio in Hagen, Germany by Siggi Bemm and mastered by Patrick W. Engel. The cover artwork was illustrated again by Joe Petagno.

"Genesis XIX" will be made available as a CD digipak version, 2LP gatefold version, exclusive bundle versions with mask (only at the Steamhammer shop), download and stream.

This past January, SODOM recruited Toni Merkel as its new drummer. He joined the band as the replacement for Stefan "Husky" Hüskens, who announced his departure from SODOM less than two weeks earlier.

Sodom > Kreator

Il y a un côté black thrash très 80's.
Comme à leur début.
Tout comme DS j'ai toujours préféré Angelripper à Petrozza.

J'irai pas jusque là, Kreator est plus 'musical', plus varié sur l'ensemble de sa carrière.

Mais les derniers extraits de Sodom poutrent, c'est sur.

SODOM bassist/vocalist Thomas "Angelripper" Such says: "Originally we had planned to bring out the record in time for this year's summer festival season, including a sticker with all confirmed tour dates. Of course, the way it looks at the moment, all festivals will be postponed until 2022. But the EP will be released anyway, as a sign of life. As a signal to our fans: We're still around! The story continues."

"Bombenhagel" was the title of a song from SODOM's second studio album, "Persecution Mania", which came out in 1987.

SODOM's latest studio LP, "Genesis XIX", came out last November via Entertainment One (eOne) in North America and Steamhammer/SPV in Europe. The disc was recorded by Siggi Bemm and mastered by Patrick W. Engel and comes shrouded in the cover art of Joe Petagno of MOTÖRHEAD fame.

Angelripper described "Genesis XIX" as "one of the toughest and most diverse studio recordings that SODOM have ever released." He is joined in the band's current lineup by guitarists Frank Blackfire and Yorck Segatz as well as new addition, drummer Toni Merkel.

"Our riff suppliers, Yorck and Frank, are totally different types of musicians," Angelripper said. "Yorck is a died-in-the-wool metalhead who grew up with thrash music. Frank, on the other hand, also integrates blues and rock elements into his style, including the occasional Frank Marino or Rory Gallagher quotation, and writes songs that could have featured in the same or a similar way on 'Agent Orange'. These are the diverse influences that make 'Genesis XIX' what it is."
