IN FLAMES - I Am Above (single, 14 décembre 2018) + I, The Mask (album, 1er mars 2019)

Je ne savais même pas que le batteur qui venait d'arriver est déja reparti.  
Par contre l'extrait du nouveau morceau fait envie pour une fois, ça sonne assez old school... à confirmer.

Swedish metallers IN FLAMES will release a new single and video, "I Am Above", on December 14. The clip was once again directed by Patric Ullaeus of Revolver Film Company, who has previously worked with DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL, AMARANTHE and KAMELOT, among others.

IN FLAMES recruited American drummer Tanner Wayne, best known for his work with UNDERMINDED, SCARY KIDS SCARING KIDS and CHIODOS, to sit behind the kit for the band for its 2018 live appearances.

Wayne stepped into IN FLAMES following the apparent recent departure of Joe Rickard, who played on the band's 2016 studio album, "Battles".

Tanner made his live debut with IN FLAMES in July in Brno, Czech Republic.

Longtime IN FLAMES drummer Daniel Svensson announced in 2015 that he was leaving the band to focus on his family life.

IN FLAMES' current lineup features American bassist Bryce Paul, who has been playing most of the shows with the group since longtime bassist Peter Iwers's November 2016 exit.

In a recent interview with Mexico's Etic's Live, IN FLAMES vocalist Anders Fridén stated about the band's current plans: "We released an album called 'Battles' and that was released two years ago, I think. We are working on something, and people who know what we sound like today will definitely recognize it, but there are elements there that will feel a little bit new here and there. With IN FLAMES, we don't want to change it too much, but we want to change a little from album to album. It's still important for us to have the melody, that's the first thing. We grew up on melody and melody is everything for us. Then you can do a lot of things, of course. It's very melodic and heavy at the same time."

Regarding IN FLAMES' knack for integrating different styles into the band's music, Anders said: "I see it as a natural evolution. You can only do so many riffs on the guitar. It's all about notes in a different order and a lot of things has been done, but you're taking influences from here and there and you mix it up and make it your own. That's how the music develops. I really think that we all fit within this. Then, it's obviously up to the audience if they're open-minded enough. Can you mix classic with more than the heavier, can you do this and that? In my opinion, good music is good music. You can do that. I like bands that try to take something and move it forward and mix and match from different outlets. That's progress. In my world, there are no different genres, just good music and bad music."

Bon, comme on pouvait s'y attendre, on n'est pas vraiment sur un retour aux sonorités typiquement melodeath des années 90-2000. Les passages en chant clair sont très moyens, dommage car le refrain est punchy...


Et en exclusivité un deuxième morceau: (This Is Our) House, qui nous ramène aux tristes heures de Battles

Mouais... c’est un peu plus heavy que Battles mais ça reste le même genre de soupe.

Le premier morceau, c'est du gâchis. Y'a du bon riff, c'est bien le style In Flames avec ce chant vénère et dès que la voix claire arrive... Argh ! Que c'est trafiqué ! C'est juste horrible. Ils peuvent pas nous faire une belle voix claire virile, éraillée plutôt que cette merde ? Même le solo est bon, ça fout les boules.

Le deuxième morceau, je ne sais même pas qu'en penser...

Je suis assez d'accord avec toi pour I Am Above, ça sent le gâchis, ce nouvel album

Swedish melodic heavyweights IN FLAMES will release their thirteenth studio album, titled "I, The Mask", on March 1, 2019 via Nuclear Blast (worldwide, excluding North America) and Eleven Seven Music (North America). Pre-orders for the album will begin January 11 offering "I Am Above" and "(This Is Our) House" as instant downloads. The 12-track album reunites them with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, MOTÖRHEAD) who also produced 2016's "Battles". Additionally, the album was mixed by Grammy Award winner Chris Lord-Alge (CHEAP TRICK, LINKIN PARK) and mastered by Grammy-winning mastering engeneer Ted Jensen (PANTERA, EAGLES, GUNS N' ROSES).

The album artwork is created by artist Blake Armstrong and depicts a unique interpretation of the band's mascot, The Jesterhead. The story of the cover will be revealed via the full album artwork on March 1, which coincides with each song on the album.

IN FLAMES has debuted two killer tracks from "I, The Mask" — the superlative anthems "I Am Above" and "(This Is Our) House". A poignant video for "I Am Above" has also been revealed, which features famous Swedish actor Martin Wallström ("Mr. Robot"). The video takes place in a pitch-black room with Martin who eerily lip syncs the metal ballad with expressive facial gestures that capture the song's emotion. Meanwhile, the lyric video for track "(This Is Our) House" features unseen footage from the band's first annual Swedish festival, Borgholm Brinner (Borgholm Is Burning).

Said Wallström: "I was very intrigued by doing something I've never done before and honored getting the question from IN FLAMES. Also trying to portray a lively song in a dark room, sitting in front of a camera was challenging, but I felt strongly for the song and the lyrics, so that was a comfort."

C'est juste un single, hein.   (mon dieu, que m'arrive-t-il ? )

Bin moi aussi, j'aime bien les 2 morceaux.
Je n'ai pas écouté In Flames depuis jesaispascombiendetemps, mais là, j'ai trouvé ça bon.

Je comprends pas la direction musicale de ce groupe. Sur le premier single, on a un retour par moment d'un chant presque guttural, qu'on a pas du avoir depuis Whoracle, et avec surtout une deuxième partie de morceau plutôt prenante.

Et un deuxième morceau d'une niaiserie absolue, mais étrangement je prends du plaisir sur le refrain.

Mais il est pas mal du tout ce morceau !

Ces passages en chant clair gâchent toujours un peu le truc, mais c'est vrai que c'est punchy et maîtrisé. Très étonnant.
Et pluzin avec Bekk, très difficile de comprendre où vont les Suédois. À part peut-être... Non, c'est impossible... Pas eux...

Toutafé. Essaieraient-ils de ménager la chèvre et le chou (expression pas assez employée, soit dit en passant) avec des riffs et des couplets à l'ancienne pour les vieux fans et des refrains ratés chantés pour les nouveaux fans ? Ça ne parait pas être une très bonne méthode a priori...

Je suis assez d'accord, le résultat pourrait cependant peut-être plaire aux nouveaux amateurs qui apprécieraient un peu plus d'énergie dans les compo?

Cette direction musicale avec des couplets agressifs suivis de couplets à la fois trafiquée, ça me fait penser à The Unguided. C'est peut-être ce genre de public qu'ils cherchent.

pour citer Bekk : 'Je comprends pas la direction musicale de ce groupe'. Pareil pour moi, je suis un fan absolu jusqu'à Clayman, j'ai quand meme bien aimé 'reroute'. Depuis quelques temps je me remets tous les albums entre 'Come clarity' et 'Battles' et je reste très sceptique, j'essaie de faire abstraction des vieux albums pour n'avoir aucun a priori mais ça ne veut pas, je trouve juste leur musique pauvre et convenue, entre pseudo agressivité, refrains mielleux... le single 'this is our house' c'est juste

Moi, parmi les "nouveaux" albums j'aimais bien Sounds of a Playground Fading , le premier sans Jesper Stromblad ... ce qui est sorti après j'ai soit pas écouté, soit oublié
