VALLENFYRE – announce release date and reveal cover for “Fear Those Who Fear Him”!

Crusty Death/Doom outfit VALLENFYRE has set June 2nd, 2017 as release date for its third album, “Fear Those Who Fear Him”, via Century Media Records.

Recorded by the band’s new core line-up consisting of Gregor Mackintosh (vocals and guitar), Hamish Glencross (guitar and bass) and Waltteri Väyrynen (drums), “Fear Those Who Fear Him” was once again produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge,Nails,etc.) at GodCity Studio in Salem, MA and mastered by Brad Boatright (Obituary, Beastmilk, YOB) at Audiosiege Mastering in Portland, OR. The cover artwork was created by Hal Rotter / rottinggraphics.com.

Greg Mackintosh comments: “Most bands refine their sound over the first 2 or 3 albums. Becoming more technically adept and honing their craft. VALLENFYRE have done almost exactly the opposite. We have devolved, made things simpler and crush most of the melody under swathes of rotting noise. From “A Fragile King” to “Splinters” and now to “Fear Those Who Fear Him”, we have become more savage, more raw and less compromising!”

“Fear Those Who Fear Him” will be released as Gatefold LP+CD on limited coloured and regular black 180 gram vinyl, as Special Edition Digipak (international version), Jewelcase CD (Canada, USA, Mexico only) and on all digital / streaming platforms. Inspired by the likes of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Autopsy, Antisect, Discharge, Nihilist/Entombed, early Napalm Death, early Bathory, and Conflict, VALLENFYRE have forged a trademark sound between rotting death metal driven by a chainsaw like guitar sound, filthy doses of crust and early grind as well as crushing, depraved doom.

On va bien se marrer

As a second taster of our new album "Fear Those Who Fear Him" we would like to present you with the song "An Apathetic Grave". By total contrast to the previously released track "Kill All Your Masters", this one is an extremely miserable, crushing doom song about a man reaching the end of his life and reflecting on the futility of it all.
 

"An Apathetic Grave", ou la seule piste que je sauve de cet album qui est, je trouve, assez inbouffable. Cette production est vraiment hardos à encaisser. Enfin en l'écoutant, je ne m'attendais pas du tout ça, disons.

"Nihilist is about those who take their ridiculous holy book seriously and carry it out to the letter. In light of recent events it is dedicated to the innocent victims of the Manchester attack."



C'est vrai que la prod est particulière...

Ne sachant pas trop où poster ça, je le mets ici : interview plutôt intéressante de Greg Mackintosh sur Radio metal.
Le guitariste y révèle notamment qu'il ne compte plus rien enregistrer avec Vallenfyre et s'arrêter avec cet album.

Greg Mackintosh a donc mis un terme à son projet death old school Vallenfyre pour monter un nouveau projet qui s'appelle STRIGOI et qui fait... du death old school. Il fait ça avec un certain Chris Casket, anciennement bassiste de... Vallenfyre bien sur, et la batterie est jouée par Waltteri Väyrynen, batteur de Paradise Lost et Vallenfyre bien entendu.
L'album s'appelle Abandon All Faith (ça annonce du fun en pagaille) et sort le 22 novembre prochain.

“With VALLENFYRE, we went down this path where it got more and more crusty,” Greg Mackintosh explains. “I thought we couldn’t take it any further, so I needed to put in some new elements. With STRIGOI, there’s a bit of spookiness, even some subtle elements of industrial and even black metal. The goal was to switch it up a bit. I was perfectly content with what I was doing in VALLENFYRE, but for STRIGOI to stand on its own, I wanted to try new things to separate ourselves from the pack.”

Il sait tout faire lui quand même !

Du coup je regarde la signification de "strigoi" (à prononcer strigoï). Selon Wikipedia, il s'agit de créatures mort-vivantes qui font partie du folklore roumain. Ces âmes troublées sortent de leur tombe et reviennent tourmenter leurs proches. Le terme désigne une sorte de revenant avec un corps physique, sans être pour autant un zombie.

Death old school ? Pas vraiment...

Greg comments: "This, the grimmest track on the album, is about depression, despair and self-harm. Musical asphyxiation."

Bassist Chris Casket states: "The production of the video was totally DIY, including the 'practical effects' and filmed in studio and on location in Yorkshire, Suffolk and Milan. Initially, we wanted to gather background footage for a lyric video, but these sessions quickly escalated into a full video production, and the end result is a combination of performance, eerie locations, creeping insects and self mutilation."
