MEGADETH - The Sick, The Dying and The Dead (2 septembre 2022)

Je l'aime bien moi cet album. En plus du génial Dread il y a du très bon: le 100% fan service mais ultra efficace Return to Hangar; le single Moto Psycho, l'opener classique et efficace Disconnect, l'oppressant Recipe for Hate... Warhorse, et la reprise de Am I Evil le très bon When.

Je me souviens que j'étais content quand il est sorti, y a rien d'original mais c'était un retour aux sources après l'erreur de parcours du très commercial Risk.

C'est marrant comme on peut avoir des perceptions différentes. Je l'ai réécouté depuis hier et franchement à part "The Dread and The Fugitive Mind" et "Disconnect", je trouve tout insipide et ennuyeux. Alors que sur Risk, j'aime au moins 4 morceaux.

Je suis en train de le réécouter et j'avais oublié 1000 Times Goodbye, très bon morceau mélodique qu'on aurait pu trouver sur Cryptic Writings !

Disconnect est également un pompage de Diamond Head.

Vos commentaires m'ont donné envie d'écouter les albums post Risk que j'avais négligés. Ce soir je me lance.

Verbeuren doit savoir faire ça.

Gene Hoglan en a mis un peu chez Testament depuis qu'il fait partie du groupe, ça passe bien je trouve. Ça booste et ça modernise sans dénaturer l'esprit. Faut pas en abuser, c'est tout.

Mais Testament c'est quand même plus méchant que Megadeth. Perso, j'écoute Megadeth pour les mélodies (oui, oui) et les riffs thrash incisifs (bon, plus depuis 20 ans). Donc le blast ma parait incongru dans cette équation. Mais encore une fois ce n'est que mon avis de maigre auditeur de 3 albums du début des années 90. Tant mieux s'il évolue du reste, ça ne peut pas leur faire de mal.

Dave part en croisière faire du metal avec ses potos et lance un festival de micro-binouzes :

"Il se passe beaucoup de choses ces temps-ci dans le camp de la formation Megadeth. Premièrement, le groupe travaille sur son 16e album studio en carrière, dont la sortie est prévue pour l’an prochain.

Également, Megadeth a annoncé récemment qu’il allait organiser une croisière thématique avec la compagnie Norwegian Cruise Line intitulée Megacruise, dont le slogan est « thrashing trough the Pacific Ocean ».

Le chanteur Dave Mustaine, en entrevue avec Full Metal Jackie, a dévoilé quelques détails supplémentaires, dont l’itinéraire prévu pour le voyage: « ça va commencer à Long Beach, puis nous allons nous rendre à Catalina puis à Mexico, ensuite nous ferons demi-tour et nous diriger vers San Diego ». Mustaine a aussi confirmé la présence des groupes Anthrax, Testament, Corrosion Of Conformity, John 5, Doro, Metal Church, Armored Saint et plus lors de cette croisière, qui devrait durer 4 ou 5 jours. D’autres noms seront ajoutés sous peu.

De plus, Mustaine a révélé qu’il voulait mettre en place un nouveau festival thématique nommé Kegadeth, un événement qui marierait la musique métal et les bières de microbrasseries. Aucune date n’a été confirmée pour l’instant."

En attendant le nouvel album, le groupe sort un nouveau best of:


MEGADETH will release a greatest-hits album, "Warheads On Foreheads", on March 22. The disc will feature 35 remastered tracks hand-selected by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine.

MEGADETH recently released a 25-second video teaser for "Warheads On Foreheads" featuring a snippet of the band's classic track "Take No Prisoners".

This is not the first time MEGADETH has released a greatest-hits collection. Back in 2005, the band issued "Greatest Hits: Back to the Start", the track listing for which was selected by fans in a poll at the band's official web site. That effort packed 17 top hits and favorites on a 78-minute single disc, including "Peace Sells", "Symphony Of Destruction", "In My Darkest Hour", "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Sweating Bullets".

Prior to the arrival of "Warheads On Foreheads", MEGADETH will reissue two of its iconic records, 2001's "The World Needs A Hero" and 2004's "The System Has Failed", through BMG on February 15.

The anthology spans the band's entire studio recording career, from its first album "Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good" to its 2016 Grammy Award-winning release "Dystopia", and will be available as a 3-CD set, a 4-LP set and a digital edition via UMe Recordings. "Thirty-five years ago I chose the name MEGADETH for my band and I see these songs as the most efficient weapons in the band's arsenal," says Dave Mustaine. "'Warheads On Foreheads' is a U.S. military term for targeting efficiency. It's all about using the right tool for the job and these tracks were created for maximum destruction (or stopping power, or something else!)."

In 1984, Mustaine was determined to start a new band that would be heavier and faster than his peers. Mustaine's songwriting was rapidly maturing, and he set about combining the attitude and energy of punk, with the power and intricate riffing of metal, along with direct, sociopolitical lyrical content. With David Ellefson on bass and Gar Samuelson on drums, the band recorded its infamous three-song demo which quickly circulated through the underground tape-trading circuit and became an underground hit leading to a deal with Combat Records.

"Warheads On Foreheads" starts at that beginning with the early thrashers "Rattlehead" and "Mechanix" from the band's 1985 debut, "Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good", an album that would lay down the blueprint and establish MEGADETH as forerunners of what would later be called thrash metal (and recently hailed by VH1 as the greatest thrash metal debut of all time).

MEGADETH was quickly signed by Capitol Records and released its 1986 major label debut "Peace Sells…But Who's Buying?", which became the band's first certified gold record and would go on to become MEGADETH's first platinum-selling release. Featured on "Warheads On Foreheads" are "The Conjuring" and the track "Good Mourning/Black Friday", which Pitchfork describes as "everything great about hardcore, plus a dose of the kind of show-off skill that makes lesser musicians' fingers bleed." Other songs included are "In My Darkest Hour" from its platinum-selling "So Far, So Good, So What!" (1988), "Hangar 18" and "Holy Wars…The Punishment Due" from its Grammy-nominated platinum album "Rust In Peace" (1990), and "Symphony Of Destruction" and "Sweating Bullets" from 1992's Grammy-nominated double-platinum release "Countdown To Extinction". Also featured are "A Tout Le Monde" and "Reckoning Day" from 1994's platinum-selling release "Youthanasia", "Kingmaker" from 2013's Top Ten release "Super Collider", which hit No. 3 on both the Hard Rock Albums and Top Rock Albums charts, "She-Wolf" from the Grammy-nominated Top Ten release "Cryptic Writings" (1997) and the title track from the band's most recent album "Dystopia".

Upon its release in 2016, "Dystopia" reasserted MEGADETH's place at the top of the metal world, equaling the chart impact of their early-nineties output, earning the band its first Grammy, as well as rave reviews (The Guardian gave it five out of five stars and stated "'Dystopia' is an absolutely blistering return to the state-of-the-art bombast and refined technicality.")

MEGADETH burst onto the scene thirty-five years ago, virtually inventing a genre and selling more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including a 2017 Grammy Award for "Best Metal Performance" for the title track "Dystopia", 12 Grammy nominations, and scoring five consecutive platinum albums. MEGADETH's 35th-anniversary greatest-hits compilation, "Warheads On Foreheads", will be accompanied by a 350-page graphic anthology, featuring comic book stories inspired by the songs on the album. The collaboration, titled "Death By Design", features stories written and illustrated by top talent from the comics, film, television and music world.

The project, carefully curated by MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine and Heavy Metal, is a powerful book that gives both insight and understanding into the universe of MEGADETH and its harrowed mascot, Vic Rattlehead.

MEGADETH, working in close collaboration with Heavy Metal, has collected an unprecedented pool of talent for "Megadeth: Death By Design", making it any comic book or MEGADETH fan's dream. Brendan Small (creator of "Metalocalypse") teams with Belen Ortega ("Girl With The Dragon Tattoo") for "Hangar 18". Dan Fogler ("Fantastic Beasts And Where To find Them") writes an apocalyptic tale insanely drawn by Andy Belanger ("Southern Cross") for "Rattlehead". Ils vont accélérer le tempo ? J'ai toujours pensé qu'ils avaient volontairement ralenti la cadence pour sonner plus radio friendly (moi je le trouve pas mauvais, mais c'est mou du genou, quoi).

Certes mais c'est un exemple réussi de ralentissement du tempo pour miser sur la mélodie, contrairement à d'autres...

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE Diagnosed With Throat Cancer

Dave Mustaine has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

The MEGADETH leader broke the news of his diagnosis earlier today via his social media.

He wrote: "I've been diagnosed with throat cancer. It's clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I've faced obstacles before. I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.

"Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. MEGADETH will be back on the road ASAP.

"Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to 'Dystopia' — which I can't wait for everyone to hear.

"I'm so thankful for my whole team — family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.

"I'll keep everyone posted.
