Swedish doom metal legends CANDLEMASS will release a special 30th-anniversary 3CD/2DVD set, "Behind The Wall Of Doom", on April 29 via Peaceville. The set will include an expansive 92-page book by writer Per-Ola Nilsson.

The three-decade-long tale of CANDLEMASS is told from recollections of bandmembers past and present and chronicles the rise and domination of the pioneering Swedes (who have firmly stamped their mark on the metal world).

"Behind The Wall Of Doom" includes never-before-seen photos dating from the mid-1980s "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" period to the present day. Also included are the CANDLEMASS demos, plus rare and previously unheard tracks from the band's early rehearsals in 1985, alongside choice tracks from CANDLEMASS's early classic releases, as selected by Leif Edling and former vocalist Messiah Marcolin.

The set is completed with extensive DVD footage featuring several integral band performances over the decades, including the much-sought and revered Dynamo performance from 1988, plus other exclusive material. "Behind The Wall Of Doom" is presented in deluxe 12" hardback book format.

Commented CANDLEMASS bassist and main songwriter Leif Edling: "We said we wouldn't record an album, but we had to release something for the 30th anniversary of CANDLEMASS, so it became this EP.

"'Death Thy Lover' is in a way a typical CANDLEMASS song and in a way not typical for us. The chorus is pretty poppy, if I can use that word — I would never have imagined I would use a term like that to describe anything CANDLEMASS — but the main riff is very metal and the opening is us going classic ANVIL."

He continued: "Our old friend and now singer Mats Levén is doing a great job on the song. He's also exactly what we needed live, and the band has became even better with him in the camp."

"The live shows we've done after 'Psalms For The Dead' (2012) have been fantastic," said CANDLEMASS guitarist Mats "Mappe" Björkman. "Mats has done a great job fronting CANDLEMASS and I don’t think we've ever been this good on stage before! Wacken, Bang Your Head!!!, Sweden Rock, Hellfest, Metal Days, Metallsvenskan, Maryland Death Fest... We have conquered them all."

Edling is slowly getting better from his chronic fatigue syndrome, and participated in the EP recordings.

En doom traditionnel, j'ai eu beau chercher, je n'ai jamais trouvé meilleur que Candlemass (Warning, à égalité, dans un registre différent et le temps de cinq morceaux seulement...)

Je l'ai pas trouvé si nul cet EP, je l'ai écouté 2 ou 3 fois avec un certain plaisir (notamment celui d'entendre enfin Mats Leven sur du Candlemass).

Deux écoutes pour moi également et j'avoue me rallier au point de vue de Winter. Ce n'est pas de la mauvaise musique, mais voilà : c'est très, très convenu. Rien d'extraordinaire, en effet.

Ca m'étonne pas vu que tu as aimé le deuxième album d''Avatarium, et c'est dans la même veine.

Je dois avouer que j'ai revu ma position sur le 2eme Avatarium, à part sur le morceau titre qui est pêchu on s'y fait quand même bien chier...

Du coup il est possible que cette sensation t'envahisse pour ce Death Thy Lover... Sans vouloir jouer les pisse vinaigre hein...
